What can you do when you're in the mood to buy but don't see anything you like? Most agents say suggest buyers take a step back and reevaluate what's most important.
Start with the neighborhood. Could you get more for your money elsewhere? Is it a neighborhood where you'd be happy? What about buying in an up-and-coming neighborhood, or on the edge of your neighborhood of choice?
Think about amenities. Can you live with one less bedroom or bathroom? What about a smaller kitchen or a larger family room but no formal living room? Are you willing to reorganize your priorities? What about buying a fixer-upper?
Finally, if you have somewhere you can live for another six months, you can always wait and see what comes on the market later. If you have to be out of your current home, consider renting until the market opens up or you can afford more.
